Getting work and being included

My name is Marie.

I used to work at Borders General Hospital. I worked there for 14 years and I retired 3 weeks past Friday. I had a retirement party and I got a presentation.

What I used to do was look after the staff locker room. I liked the job very much. I was very independent. I just got on with things. I liked being independent. I worked there from 2 to 4 every afternoon. I got paid every Thursday. It was the proper rate for the job.

I went there on the bus. A lot of people use this bus because there are the visitors as well as the people like me who work at the hospital. I liked meeting people when I was at work and on the bus.

I liked this job. I didn't like my old job so much. I used to work in the laundry at the hospital, but it was a long day and the work was hot and heavy, and I'm not very big. Janice from my support service helped me get both jobs.

Now I'm retired, I'm starting a volunteer job in a charity shop. It will be good to meet more people. Also, it will take me out the house for a while. I'm very happy with my work.
