Employability Peer Support Project

The Employability Peer Support Development Group brings together people with lived experience of mental health problems and staff who work in services across Glasgow.

About this project

Everyone who is part of the group is interested in promoting the idea of peer support to help people think about employability and achieve their goals.

Employability is when people feel ready to get into work, volunteering or education.  It brings together getting confidence, learning new skills, getting experience, having good information about options and choices, and having supports around you.

The Development Group are asking people who live with mental health problems about  their experiences and views on peer support, on how it can apply to employability, and how it can influence decisions that are made around matters like people’s access to work  and learning opportunities and related support.

There have been a series of focus groups, facilitated by members of the Development Group and other people who have lived with mental health problems.    A member of the Development Group who has experience of training and facilitation provided the training for the other people who wanted to learn.

Outside the Box supported the group to plan and deliver the project.

  • We provided some additional back-up administrative support over the busiest part of the project.
  • We were a back-up facilitator for some of the focus groups.
  • We helped put together the report from all the focus group discussions.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde has given a grant to the Employability Peer Support project.  Some of Outside the Box’s time is covered by the Working Towards project, with funding from the Big Lottery Fund.

The report is now available to download.
