Parents as Partners in their children's learning - developing the toolkit

About this project

The Scottish Executive Education Department commissioned Outside the Box to develop a tool kit on parental involvement. This was to support more parents to become involved in their children's learning, and to support changes around the ways parents are formally involved in schools through the new Parent Forums and Parent Councils.

The tool kit builds on practical experience and good practice and what parents and teachers said they would find helpful. We received a lot of help from parents, teachers, staff in education departments, staff in other parts of local authorities and from voluntary organisations.

We also drew on recent experience of effective ways to encourage more people tobe involved in other public services - especially those people who previously have not felt able to contribute.

The Toolkit was launched in September 2006.
